Since 1853 Bechstein has been one of the leading German piano manufacturers. The company was started by Carl Bechstein who studied piano craftsmanship in both France and England. The first time he made a piano it was for a different company. In October 1853 he started his own company in Berlin.
At the time, there was a large demand for quality pianos in Germany. Carl Bechstein hoped to fulfill that need by creating a quality piano and producing enough of them to meet demand. His company was a direct competitor to two other brands that were founded in the same year: Bluthner and Steinway & Sons.
Both World Wars hurt the Bechstein company significantly, including both the factory and stores for the company being destroyed by Ally forces in the Second World War. After WWII, the company was de-Natzified and it once again started to produce pianos. The post-war market was hard on the company.
When the Berlin Wall came down, the Bechstein company really started to succeed again with orders around the world. They even opened a new factory in order to keep up with production.
The Bechstein company operates four different brands for their pianos: C. Bechstein, Bechstein, W.Hoffmann, and Zimmerman. Each brand brings with it its own features and benefits.
The two main types of pianos produced by Bechstein are grand pianos and upright pianos. As a business, Bechstein focuses on producing classic style pianos with a sound to match other top of the line manufacturers.
Another type of piano has been made by Bechstein though. Artcase pianos from Bechstein have received much popularity. These pieces were highly detailed works of art that were designed to be both playable and ornate. Many of them feature gold decorations, intricate carvings, and hand painted detailing. The artcase pianos made by Bechstein can be seen in both royal palaces and grand mansions.
One of the things that Bechstein piano customers can be confident of is that they will never regret their purchase. The quality from Bechstein pianos is superior.
